NB This event was originally scheduled for Monday 16th October
Over the summer cricket season, theatre maker and artist Michelle McMahon has been working with the Theatrical Cavaliers Cricket Club as part of Engage the City. The Cavs, as they are commonly known, will celebrate 30 years of social cricket this year and members are mostly from the theatrical community including actors, directors, writers, designers and many more. Michelle, along with Project Manager Louise Osborne, has been welcomed into the team by the Cavs over cricket games and conversations about the crossovers between theatre and sport. The importance of social networks, the community feeling that has been created amongst members and the social history of cricket in Ireland are just some of the themes that have emerged over the sessions. This month marks the closure of the season and the culmination of Michelle’s research with the Cavs. To mark the event, Dublin’s Culture Connects have worked with the National Library of Ireland to showcase some of their expansive cricket archive. Excited by the heritage and development of cricket through the ages, Michelle and the NLI will host a morning Culture Club on Monday 27th November 2017 to delve into the history of this social sport. This is a public event and any individual or group with a passion for history, sport and community are welcome to join on Monday 27thth November at 10am. The introduction to the archive will last approx. 50 mins and will be followed by light refreshments. Please contact Louise on join-in@dublinscultureconnects.ieif you would like to attend.
