Please find a comprehensive update from the latest meeting of the Cricket Leinster Youth Committee.
Significant changes have been made to the youth league structures in 2019, with an emphasis on more game time for the B and C leagues at the various age groups. In addition, the introduction of some conference leagues is aimed at producing more evenly contested matches in the second half of the season.
The committee noted the strong number of teams entered into the youth leagues for the current season. In the Girls section from Minor to Under 17, there are 38 teams entered (from 12 clubs). In the Boys section from Minor to Under 19, there are over 100 teams entered (from 21 clubs).
Each youth league will have a committee member that oversees its progress throughout the season. The objective is to try and ensure that matches get played (or re-fixed as soon as possible). The committee member may be in touch with Clubs to get updates throughout the season. A list of the committee members and their league responsibilities is outlined in the table below.
It was agreed that 5 players in each team must be starred and that starrings should be sent in by 15 May 2019.
The Youth Committee is also anxious to get better information around the number of youth players actively playing matches throughout the season. The Committee will encourage all Clubs to register all youth players. Starred players must be registered for the 2019 season.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday 20 May 2019.
