The number of young cricketers competing in the Open Competitions has edged up slightly in the past fortnight. The first time we reported on this there were 229, the number now is 235. The breakdown by age may be of some interest.

Between Irish Senior Cup matches [which are not included] and the poor weather there isn’t any worthwhile update on the performances at D1/D2 since we last reported. We focus this week therefore on D3.
In D3, it is the Delany cousins, David and Gareth, who have been making the biggest impact for Clontarf and Leinster respectively. David Delaney is one of only three youth players to have scored a century this season [which he did in helping to secure a win for Clontarf II against Leinster II in the first match of the season]. Gareth has made one fifty, but tops the averages.

On the bowling front Padraic Flanagan [YMCA] leads the averages, and also has the highest number of wickets and best economy rate. Gareth Delany is the only player to figure in both sets of averages.
